Privacy policy
The Scoring64 app handles answer sheets and student data only on the device you use. It never sends them to us.
Established 13 October 2026 · Revised 23 October 2026
This is an English translation of the Japanese privacy policy. If the two differ, the Japanese version prevails.
Scope
This policy applies to the Scoring64 app provided by Fermion Inc. (“we”, “the seller”): the Mac App Store version, the iPad version, and the download version for Windows and Mac offered on this site. Details for the iPad version are also in the iPad privacy policy (Japanese).
Data the app handles
An exam may contain students’ numbers and names, images of their answer sheets, questions, answer keys and points, grades and comments. The app handles these on the device to design sheets, read and grade answer sheets, and make returned PDFs and gradebooks. Reading and grading also happen on the device.
Data is saved in the data folder on the device; for the Mac App Store version, inside the app’s container (~/Library/Containers/company.fermion.scoring64.pad/). We do not hold a copy of this data.
Collection and transmission
The app does not send answer sheets, class lists, grades, device IDs or usage history to us or to third parties. It has no accounts, advertising, analytics, crash reporting or tracking. The app itself never calls an outside AI service; if you choose to set up AI grading separately, the section below also applies.
The grading engine accepts connections only on 127.0.0.1 on the device, used only to talk to the app’s own window. Other computers cannot connect to it.
The app writes files only when you choose to export or save. Sending of screens and answer sheets through AI grading is described below. You decide where return ZIPs, CSVs and backups are saved and whom you share them with.
If you use AI grading
When you connect the Windows or Mac download to the grading plugin for Codex or Claude Code, an AI agent reads answer sheets and operates the app’s screen. Images and text of answer sheets, students’ names and your rubric may then be sent to the AI service you use. Unlike regular on-screen grading and bubble reading, which run locally, AI grading is not fully offline.
The plugin’s launcher connects only to the loopback address on the same computer; there is no feature that sends answer sheets to a plugin server of ours. Storage, training use and deletion at the AI provider follow that service’s terms and your settings.
Remove personal details from real answer sheets beforehand and check your school’s policy. Do not send personal information of children under 13 to AI services. Answer data in AI grading · About the grading plugin
When the app goes online
- Mac App Store and iPad versions: they connect to the App Store to show, buy and restore in-app purchases. Purchases are verified on the device by checking Apple’s signature, without contacting our servers. TeX, used to typeset sheets in the Mac App Store version, is bundled with the app and is not downloaded.
- Mac App Store versions that support notices: at launch, at most once every 24 hours, they fetch a signed public configuration published in a public GitHub repository. It is used only for notices, planned prices and news of the latest version, and never changes the app’s features or purchase prices. Grading works without it. No answer sheets, class lists, device IDs or usage history are sent, and no cookies or credentials are attached. The delivery provider receives your IP address, the time and standard request headers, and may log them. This fetch does not run this website’s analytics script.
- Download version: it connects to update information published on GitHub to check for and download new versions. If you choose to set up TeX, it downloads from the official TeX Live distribution sites.
- Links to help, contact and the feedback form open in your default browser only when you click them. The site you open has its own policy.
In-app purchases
For the Mac App Store and iPad versions, Apple handles purchases, payment, renewals and cancellations. We do not receive buyers’ names, email addresses or payment details. A purchase is tied to your Apple Account and can be used on Macs and iPads signed in to the same account. The app checks Apple-signed purchase records on the device.
Issuing license keys
To receive a key for a computer, you email us the code shown in the license screen (“This computer’s code”; “This Mac’s code” on a Mac, “This iPad’s code” on an iPad). The code for a PC or Mac is a SHA-256 hash of the device identifier held by the operating system, combined with a value specific to this product. The iPad code is made the same way from a random identifier the app creates when it first needs one (kept in the device’s keychain). The original identifier cannot be recovered from it, and it cannot be used to identify you in other products or sites. The app never sends the code by itself.
If you bought on the App Store and want a key for the PC version, we also ask for the order number on Apple’s receipt. Using the App Store Server API, we check only that purchase’s product, purchase date, expiry and whether it was refunded.
A key contains the code you sent, your school or classroom name, and the license type and expiry. We keep these and your contact details to issue keys, manage the number of computers and provide support, and do not give them to third parties except where required by law.
Contacting us
What you send by email or through the feedback form, and your contact details, are used to reply and to improve the app. You never need to send images of answer sheets or students’ names. If you send a screenshot, make sure no student information is visible.

Retention and deletion
You can delete exams from the app’s list of exams. The data folder may remain after you delete the app. For the Mac App Store version, deleting the container folder above removes all exams, grades and license records. Delete exported files and backups where you saved them.
